The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event draws close, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
